Sunday scripture

Many years ago I began the practice of reading the Sunday Mass readings ahead of time. It started when we were using a religious education program called Seasons of Faith meant to be done in the home with your family. This was the program we used with our children and each week we set aside time to read and discuss the upcoming Sunday readings. I have done this ever since and have also added the daily Mass readings as the start to my prayer time each time.

This month, a new group is forming here in the Live Not Lukewarm Community. We will be taking a deep dive into the Sunday Mass readings each week.

What does it look like?

  • A live discussion group on Wednesdays
  • A Facebook Live during lunch on Thursdays
  • Background information and questions for discussion/reflection based on the readings
  • Scripture Cards
  • Prayer Prompts
  • Just for fun items: crossword puzzle, word search, coloring sheet, graphic image (these will vary)

How can I participate?

Be sure you are signed up for my mailing list! Beginning the week of November 22, we’ll get ready for the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 29. since that is Thanksgiving week, it will be a recorded session. I’ll send a link to the readings and other materials. We’ll begin meeting live on Wednesday, December 2 at 7:30 pm and then Thursday, December 3 at 12:15 pm. You’ll also receive the link to my Zoom room and Facebook page.

What’s the difference between the Zoom call and Facebook Live?

The Zoom call will be more interactive. I’ll prepare a brief overview of the readings and then we can discuss them. I anticipate no more than an hour. On Facebook, I will give the same overview and offer a reflection. People can make comments and ask questions but we will not interact with each other face to face. It will also be short, 15 or 20 minutes.

What is the cost?

At this time, it is my Advent gift to you. Beginning in January, if you wish to continue, I will ask for a one-time contribution for the year to keep the program going.
