an open book

One of the fun things I do on my podcast is interview authors about their new books. It also means I get to read their books or at least an excerpt because it’s hard to read all the books! That, my friends, it one of the saddest things of all; not being able to read all the books. But fret not, I have a great list of suggestions for you, (FYI: if you purchase a book with the link I provide, Amazon gives me a small tip, at no charge to you.)

All of these new books are of authors I’ve interviewed. All of those interviews can be found on my podcast.

  • Letters to Women by Chloe Langr: a collection of 30 different letters to and from women at all ages and stages of life.
  • Whisper: Finding God in the Everyday by Danielle Bean: We often look for God in ‘holy’ places, forgetting that he is around us all the time in the people we meet in the ordinary places of life. Danielle reminds us to look for those and find God int he everyday.
  • Simple Mercies by Lara Patangan : What did you do for your 40th birthday? I was given a surprise party. Lara decided to embark on a year of living out the Spiritual and Corporal Works of Mercy. This book tells the story of what she learned and how her faith grew in that year and is still growing!

Beginning June 16, we are reading, Finding Sanctuary: How the Wild Work of Peace Restored the Heart of a Sandy Hook Mother by Jennifer Hubbard. I interviewed Jenny and she was amazing to talk to about how God’s grace restored her and gives her hope in the face of tragedy. She spoke about how grief is a prat of all our lives, but often unseen. It also can make people uncomfortable, both those who are impacted by the tragedy and those who want to support them. God helps. Indeed, he often carries us. If you have had tragedy or grief or pain or loss in your life, this book will help you grow, in your time, towards healing. These all look worth reading. I’d like to read Danielle Bean’s book in particularly since I love her writing. Thanks for linking to An Open Book!
