Getting Ready for Advent

Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday….I’m tired of clicking through emails, though I cannot lie, I’ve found a few good deals.

I want to turn away for a few moments to the next big season, no not winter and not the buying season or the Christmas season. The Advent season of waiting and preparing for Jesus. The time to pause and listen, to grow and stretch, to slow down and be still. Not easy to do but oh so necessary.

I’m inviting you to an online book club. Now, my husband sometimes thinks my book clubs dates really mean wine club, but this one is for real, about a book. Now if you are drinking wine or tea or coffee that’s up to you. We are going to read The Reed of God by Caryll Houselander. The last phrase on the back book cover says this, “The Reed of God is a spiritual classic written in the mystical tradition of Julian of Norwich.” I’m a fan of Julian of Norwich and mystics so this excites me. The book itself is about Mary, her fiat that helps bring Jesus into the world for us.

I’m going to be interacting with you on my Facebook page, Every Day Catholic as well as posting here. If you like the page, you can then interact with others in the group who are reading the book. We’ll start reading next Sunday, Dec 2. I’ll put up a schedule by the end of the week.

I hope you’ll join the book club.
