That’s usually what we want purchasing something new; we want it better than the last one we had and less complicated to use. But when the something new is a computer (do I need to specify laptop?) easier is not always true. There are better web browsers, operating systems, and every program has been upgraded. All that improvement comes with a learning curve. And it can get annoying, frustrating and leave you questioning your for technology Okay, it did not leave me questioning my need for technology, let’s be real here!
Today was the day I was going to complete the transition from one computer to the other. I had begun this process a week or so ago, putting all my files on an external drive and clearing out the old computer. Late this morning I finally took the new machine out of the box and plugged it in. It took some time getting started and configuring itself, but it had little messages on the screen letting me know what was happening and reassuring statements “this will only take a short time” or some such thing as well. Entertaining!
I was finally able to start signing in, registering, and all that fun stuff. Then I added Google Chrome even though Windows recommends using Microsoft Edge I like having the same browser for home and work. And our IT guy said NO to changing to Windows 10 in the office. Once Google is all set, I turn back to the old machine, still think about deleting old stuff, I open the bookmark manager and delete a folder. And I can’t get it back. I tried and searched and found answers and nothing worked. I deleted my BLOGS folder. I was very upset but decided to would be a good time to find new favorites and the old favorites I remember and get them back. I would love to hear about your favorite blogs so I can add them to reading list.
Then I had to get Office. I started the process at 2:27 p.m. and it did not end until 6:10 p.m. when I just restarted my computer. It was stuck at 87%. I have checked though and all programs are loaded and functioning. I have no idea!
As usual, my day did not go as planned but since I am now on the new computer and the old one is ready to go back to my office for general use I consider it a good day. Plus, I had book group in the morning and cooked a yummy dinner.
Don’t forget, share your blog links in the comment section so I can rebuild. And this time I’ll subscribe to avoid this issue in the future!
