Exodus 17:8-13; Psalm 121:1-8;2 Timothy 3:14-4:2; Luke 18:1-8
Each week, usually on Tuesday, we gather as a staff and read the upcoming Sunday readings. Sometimes our collective thoughts actually get into the Sunday homily. As we discussed this week’s readings we were all struck with the two ideas. One, that we need to help each other in times of need and two, perseverance is important.
The widow reminds parents of whining children, and once prompted a priest to say that our prayers often ‘bother’ God. I did not agree with that at all. Prayer cannot bother God.
The readings remind us to ask for help and to pray without ceasing. And if for some reason, you are unable to pray allow others to do so for you. Intercessory prayer is very powerful and sometimes neglected.
