Come Holy Spirit and fill us with your gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord. Help us to exercise these gifts and to grow to in the fruits of the Holy Spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, self-control and faithfulness.
The gifts and fruits are what Pentecost is all about. The descent of the Holy Spirit, the moment when the Advocate, the Consoler, the Paraclete, the spirit of Truth comes and is made manifest in wind and flame. Can you imagine the excitement and energy in the room when this happened to the apostles? The strength was so fierce that it propelled them to leave the room, preach and then baptize new believers.
This is the birthday of our CHURCH! Are you excited or is this just another day? I am excited. This is what we need from our Father, a fresh outpouring of the Spirit to fill us and move us. We need to move. What we have been given we are compelled to share. Do not be afraid. There is no need to fear because “the Spirit of truth, he will guide you to all truth. He will not speak on his own, but he will speak what he hears, and will declare to you the things that are coming. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; for this reason I told you that he will take from what is mine and declare it to you” (John 16:13-15).
The Spirit will give us the words and they will be words that he has heard from the Father and the Son. They are true words and they glorify Jesus.
If you do not think you are filled with the gifts, pray the Novena for the Seven Gifts. It will strengthen you and remind you that you are indeed filled with the gifts because you have been baptized and confirmed. Stop hiding your gifts and use them to glorify the Triune God and spread the Gospel.
May the Holy Spirit fill you and guide you as you discover what God has for you.
